How the random name picker works
- Paste or type one name per line.
- Choose how many names to draw.
- Press Pick random name. Each name can only be drawn once per round.
Tick Remove winners from the list if you want to run several rounds without repeats, for example when giving out prizes one at a time or calling on students who have not yet answered.
Common uses
- Classrooms: choose who answers next, who presents, or who gets to lead an activity.
- Raffles and giveaways: draw a winner from a list of entrants. For social media contests, paste the usernames into the random name picker.
- Meetings: pick who takes notes or who goes first in a stand-up.
- Chores and games: end the argument about whose turn it is.
Make the draw an event
Open Make it fun to turn a quick draw into a moment. Choose a reveal such as a slot machine, a decoder or a 3-2-1 countdown, and pick confetti, cannons or fireworks. For giveaways, switch on the winner claim timer: if the winner does not answer in time, they are removed and the next name is drawn. These settings are shared with the spin the wheel.
Fairness
Names are shuffled with a Fisher-Yates shuffle driven by your browser's secure random generator, so every name has an equal chance of landing in every position. For a more visual draw, use the spin the wheel.
Frequently asked questions
Can I draw more than one name?
Yes. Set the number of winners and you will get an ordered list with no duplicates.
What if two people have the same name?
Each line counts as a separate entry, so add a surname or initial to tell them apart.
Are the names stored on a server?
No. The picker runs entirely in your browser and your list stays on your device.
